Another busy week, with the great weather enabling Brixham Bowling Club to catch up on early-season rained-off fixtures.

The men’s A team bounced back from a heavy defeat at Marldon to achieve an excellent result away at Bovey Tracey.

Results vs Marldon, MDL division one (Brixham skips first): C Dawes v P Collins, 15-27; M Friend vs A Routledge, 12-31; A Parker vs DeVey, 18-15; H Riley vs G Routledge, 15-29. Shots for 60, against 102. Points: 12-2 to Marldon.

The Riviera Mixed Triples team have been struggling to gain points recently. Their poor run continued away at Paignton Torbay, but they finally had something to cheer after a good win at home against Kings.

Results vs Paignton Torbay (Brixham skips first): R Frost vs J Gilson, 11-26; M Wilmot vs G Varley, 9-25; K Parker vs V Murphy, 17-13.

Shots for 37, against 64. Points: 8-2 to Paignton Torbay.

Results vs Kings Torquay: M Wilmot v M Hicks, 17-12; K Parker v J Porter, won 35-3; R Frost v T Gale, drew 16-16. Shots for 68, against 31. Points: 9-1 to Brixham.

The drawn game against Kings ended dramatically thanks to an outstanding last shot from Brixham skipper Roger Frost. Starting the last end 16-14 up, the Kings players had six woods surrounding the jack with one shot to be bowled. Roger fired his wood into the pack, dislodging the jack, to reduce the lead to two shots, ensuring his team drew the match.

The ladies’ A team continued their excellent start to the season with another good win away at Starcross.

Results, ladies’ A triples team, South Devon Ladies Bowls League (Brixham skips first): J Moore vs E Martin, 14-12; D Langford vs Sheila, 12-18; M Thomas v J Herridge, 20-14. Shots for 46, against 44. Points: 8-2 to Brixham.

It was another disappointing week for the men’s B team, who suffered a big defeat at home against Torbay Country Club – 129 to 50 shots (14 points to nil). Things can only get better.
