A medal on county bow

By Tim Leigh in Swimming

Totnes Swimming Club member Cameron Harris, 16, attended his first Devon county development gala, held over two weekends in June.

He chose a full programme of events and did not come away empty-handed; on all the events he swam he improved his best times by considerable amounts.

The first weekend he swam the 100m freestyle in a time of 1.14.20, which was a good start to his campaign.

Then, on the second weekend of competition, he posted a great time of 1.22.21 in the 100m backstroke. But his 400m freestyle proved to be his best swim of them all and the one where he improved his best time the most to post a time of 5.43.34 and get his first county medal, a silver.

He is now back in the pool training for his next event with Totnes Swimming Club at the Pavilions Leisure Centre.

If you would like to know more about the swimming club, pop down to the pool between 6pm and 9pm on a Thursday or email vealeswim@msn.com with any questions. New members always welcome.
